  1. All the bleeding will stop. Eventually.
  2. Always keep notes.
  3. Be confident. You meet a lot of new people during your lifetime as a nurse.
  4. Befriend with every single nursing aide you meet. They are the backbone of this profession.
  5. Committing mistakes is normal. That only means you’re learning.
  6. Empathy is one key to earning your patients’ trust.
  7. Get used to being tired. The lack of sleep doesn’t stop once you graduate.
  8. If it moves, rattles, shakes, falls down, or won’t stay in place, tape it.
  9. If you don’t know something, look it up.
  10. Invest on a good pair of comfortable shoes.
  11. Learn to do two or three things, at the same time.
  12. Never apologize for doing your job.
  13. Never be afraid to ask for help.
  14. Never cry in front of a physician. They’re not worth it..
  15. Never forget that you are caring for a fellow human being.
  16. Never forget what this first year feels like. Once you move forward in your career, help the next generation.

  22. Nursing is a 24-hour job; do not expect to get it all done in one shift.

  24. Respect people no matter where they come from or what illnesses they have.
  25. Take the time to auscultate well.
  26. What you consider an emergency and what the general public considers an emergency are two very different things.
  27. You must to learn how to eat fast.

  29. Your intention to help should be clear and genuine.
  30. Your shift will end soon, no matter how toxic it is.
