A Small Hospital with a Big Heart: Providing Essential Healthcare to Pilgrims in Kandy

Amidst the unwavering devotion of hundreds of thousands of pilgrims braving sun and rain along the Ampiitiya road to pay homage to the sacred Tooth Relic, a temporary medical facility has emerged as a beacon of hope. Generously provided by the owners and staff of the Ampiitiya Devon Hotel, this humble establishment, affectionately known as "Ape Punchi Ispiritale" (Our Little Hospital), is delivering crucial healthcare services to those in need.

Spearheaded by a dedicated team of volunteer healthcare professionals from the Gampola Teaching Hospital. Despite operating with minimal resources, the medical staff is providing invaluable care to a significant number of patients.

Remarkably, the "little hospital" has successfully managed several critical conditions, including cardiac arrests, epileptic seizures, hypertensive emergencies, and febrile fits. Furthermore, it has extended its compassionate services to many elderly pilgrims experiencing various health issues.

This heartwarming endeavor underscores the spirit of community and selfless service, ensuring the well-being of devotees undertaking this significant pilgrimage.
